Eric Powell (born March 3, 1975) is an Americancomic book writer/artist, best known as the creator ofThe Goon.

Career

Powell has written and provided artwork forDark Horse,DC Comics andMarvel Comics, but is most regarded for his original seriesThe Goon, which debuted from the small publisherAvatar Press. Powell quickly switched to self-publishing under the monikerAlbatross Exploding Funny Books,[1] before being picked up by Dark Horse after only a handful of issues.[2]The Goon's quality was recognized with anEisner Award in 2004 forBest Single Issue (Dark HorseThe Goon #1) as well as an International Horror Guild award. The following year, Powell won Eisner's Best Humor Publication and Best Continuing Series awards.

He is a featured interviewee in the movieIndependents.[citation needed]

Powell co-wrote the first two volumes ofIDW'sGodzilla: Kingdom of Monsters with Tracy Marsh.

In 2022, Powell's self-publishing venture, Albatross Funny Books, was moved toDark Horse Comics as an imprint,[3][1] bringing along such titles asThe Goon,Hillbilly,Big Man Plans,Galaktikon (Brendon Small), andPug Davis (Rebecca Sugar).[4]
