El MarsaArabic:المرسى is aportcity inWestern Sahara.[1]
According to theMoroccan authorities, El Marsa belongs toLaayoune Province in the region ofLaâyoune-Sakia El Hamra. Its population in 2014 is 17,917,[2] the second-largest in the province (behind the regional capitalEl Aaiún) and third in the region.[3] It has a seaport on theAtlantic Ocean and therefore is also known asLaayoune Plage (El Aaiún Beach). The town also has a hospital.
El Marsa is to the west ofEl Aaiún, on theN1, Morocco's main highway, which also goes into the Western Sahara, where it is the last settlement south untilBoujdour.
