Duncan PritchardFRSE is the chancellor'sprofessor ofphilosophy and the director of graduate studies at theUniversity of California, Irvine. He was previously professor of philosophy and chair in epistemology at theUniversity of Edinburgh. His research is mainly in the field ofepistemology. He has studied the problem ofscepticism, the epistemic externalism/internalism distinction; therationality of religiousbelief; testimony; the relationship between epistemic and contentexternalism; virtue epistemology; epistemic value; modal epistemology; Wittgensteinian hinge epistemology; the history of scepticism; and epistemologicalcontextualism.[1][2]
He received his PhD in philosophy from theUniversity of St Andrews.[1]
He received the Philip Leverhulme Prize for his research in philosophy in 2007.[5] He received a chair in epistemology in 2007. He was also elected to a Fellowship of theRoyal Society of Edinburgh in 2011 for his works in philosophy.[1][6]
