Thecinnamon-bellied imperial pigeon orcinnamon imperial pigeon (Ducula basilica) is a species ofbird in the familyColumbidae. It isendemic to the northernMoluccas. Its naturalhabitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowlandforests.

The cinnamon-bellied imperial pigeon wasformally described in 1854 by the French naturalistCharles Lucien Bonaparte from a specimen collected in Gilolo nowHalmahera, the largest island in theMaluku Islands. He coined the currentbinomial nameDucula basilica.[2] The specific epithetbasilica is Latin for "magnificent" or "splendid".[3] The cinnamon-bellied imperial pigeon was at one time considered as asubspecies of thepurple-tailed imperial pigeon (Ducula rufigaster).[4]

Two subspecies are recognised:[5]

Some ornithologists treatD. b. obiensis as a separate species, therusty imperial pigeon (Ducula obiensis).[6]
