Dragan Šutanovac (Serbian Cyrillic:Драган Шутановац,[drǎɡanʃutǎːnoʋat͡s]; born 24 July 1968) is a Serbian politician who served as theminister of defence from 2007 to 2012 and as the president of theDemocratic Party from 2016 to 2018.

Biography

He graduated from theUniversity of Belgrade Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. He specialized in security courses in the field of law enforcement and gained a diploma for security issues and oversight. He is also holder of the diploma ofGeorge C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies inGarmisch-Partenkirchen. From April to May 2000, he served in theEuropean Parliament inStrasbourg andBrussels. In September 2000, he was appointed special advisor at the Federal Ministry of Interior and in 2001 he became Assistant Federal Minister of Interior. In parliamentary elections in 2000, 2003 and 2007 he was selected as an MP.

From 2002 to 2003 he was president of the Serbian Parliament's committee for defense and security. In local elections in 2000 and 2004, he was voted deputy in the Belgrade City Assembly.

He supports theaccession of Serbia to the European Union andNATO.[1]
