Donatas Montvydas (born 22 October 1987), also known by his stage nameDonny Montell, is a Lithuanian singer-songwriter who representedLithuania at theEurovision Song Contest 2012, held inBaku, Azerbaijan.[1] He did so for a second time in2016, when he represented his country inStockholm, Sweden.[2]
Donatas Montvydas was born on 22 October 1987 inVilnius.[3] His mother was agymnast and his father was a drummer of the hard rock groupPlackartas.[4] Montvydas' older sister is a professional dancer. His interest in music began at a young age. He started performing publicly at age six when his vocal teacher let him participate in the contest for young singersDainų dainelė ("The song of the Songs"), singing "Aš kiškelis mažas" and he became a laureate.[3] In 2008 he won his first big prize when becoming the Grand Prix winner of the International Festival of ArtsSlavianski Bazaar inVitebsk, Belarus.[5]
As a child, Montvydas was highly influenced by artists such asMichael Jackson and rock bandQueen and would often impersonate these artists from a young age. He also admiresFreddie Mercury for his personality.[6] Montvydas also stated that his father is by far his biggest inspiration.[7]
