Konstantinos "Dinos"Angelidis (Greek: Κωνσταντίνος "Ντίνος" Αγγελίδης; born 5 April 1969) is an Austrian-born former Greek professionalbasketball player of mixedGreek-Austrian descent. Born inVienna, he played professionally in theGreek Basket League, and he also represented theGreek national team at the senior level. He played as either apower forward orcenter.
Angelidis started hisclub basketball career atSporting, in 1985. In 1990, he was acquired byAris ofThessaloniki. Over the next nine years, Angelidis played for the team that was at the time known as "The Emperor" of Greek basketball. With Aris, he won the European second-tier levelFIBA European Cup Winners' Cup championship in the1992–93 season, and the European third-tier levelFIBA Korać Cup championship in the1996–97 season. On the domestic front, he won theGreek League championship in 1991, and twoGreek Cup titles, in 1992 and 1998. He served as Aris'team captain for part of that time.
His playing career was marred by his failure to pass an anti-doping test, on 12 May 1999, prior to a game againstPAOK, which caused Aris have toforfeit that game. The following year, Angelidis transferred to PAOK, where he played just one season (1999–2000). He also played withDafni, before retiring from playing pro club basketball in 2001.
During his playing career, Angelidis had a total of 81caps with the seniorGreek national team, in which he scored a total of 645 points, for a scoring average of 8.0 points per game.[1] He was a member of the Greek national squad that won the silver medal at the1989 EuroBasket, which took place atZagreb, Croatia. He also won the silver medal at the1991 Mediterranean Games.
Angelidis also competed with Greece at the1991 EuroBasket, the1992 FIBA European Olympic Qualifying Tournament, the1995 EuroBasket, and the1996 Summer Olympics.
Angelidis was born inVienna,Austria, to aGreek father and anAustrian mother.[2] He graduated from theGerman School of Athens.[3]
