Denticles, also calledserrations, are small bumps on atooth that serve to give the tooth aserrated edge. Inpaleontology, denticle characteristics such as size and density (denticles per unit distance) are used to describe and classifyfossilized teeth, especially those ofdinosaurs. Denticles are also present on the teeth ofvaranoid lizards, sharks, andmammals.[1] The term is also used to describe the analogousradular teeth of mollusks.[2][3][4]
