Deep End was a short-livedsupergroup founded byguitaristPete Townshend ofthe Who and featuringDavid Gilmour ofPink Floyd.[1] The group also included drummerSimon Phillips, bassistChucho Merchan, percussionistJody Linscott, keyboardistJohn 'Rabbit' Bundrick, harmonica playerPeter Hope Evans, vocalistsBilly Nicholls,Cleveland Watkiss,Chyna, and a brass ensemble called theKick Horns.[1][2]
In 1985, the group performed two concerts for theDouble O charity atLondon'sBrixton Academy (a third was cancelled due to poor ticket sales).[3] The concerts were later released as the albumsDeep End Live! (1986) andLive: Brixton Academy '85 (2004).[1] The band also performed a concert at theMIDEM trade fair inFrance and appeared onThe Tube.[3] Townshend's daughterEmma performed as a guest vocalist at the London concerts.[3]
Many of the same musicians and vocalists also appeared with Townshend for later tours and performances and also withthe Who for selected engagements.[4][5]
In August 2016, it was announced that a Deep End appearance on the German television showRockpalast from 1986 would be released on CD and DVD.[6]
