TheDeccani film industry, also known asDollywood is theDeccani andHyderabadi Urdu-language film industry based inHyderabad, India.[1] The films have gained popularity not only in the Deccan region of India, but as well as otherHindi-Urdu speaking areas of the world.[2] The films are produced in the Deccani language, an Indo-Aryan language spoken in theDeccan region ofsouthern India, and more specifically, in Hyderabadi Urdu, while some films incorporate standardUrdu dialogues as well, especially in its music.[3]
Originally labelled as "Hindi" films by theCentral Board of Film Certification, the industry has now gotten its own language tag of Dakhini.[4]
