David Denman (born July 25, 1973[1]) is an American actor. He made his film debut inThe Replacements (2000) before his breakout role as Roy Anderson on theNBC sitcomThe Office (2005–2008; 2011–2012), which earned him aScreen Actors Guild Award.[2]
In the 2010s and 2020s, Denman had main television roles as Mike Reilly on theFox sitcomTraffic Light (2011), Mark Holter on theCinemax horror seriesOutcast (2016–2017), and Frank Sheehan on theHBO Max miniseriesMare of Easttown (2021). He had starring roles in the filmsPuzzle (2018),Brightburn (2019),Greenland (2020),The Equalizer 3 (2023), andRebel Ridge (2024).
Denman was born inNewport Beach, California.[3] He attended eight schools while growing up all overSouthern California. His family moved toSequim, Washington, when he was nine years old, living on a farm, which lasted two years before they returned toOrange County, California. He graduated fromFountain Valley High School, where classmates included actorOmar Metwally and writer-directorCraig Brewer. He later attended the summer training congress atAmerican Conservatory Theater inSan Francisco.[4]
He spent two years atOrange Coast College, where he performed in and directed over twenty productions. He went on to earn aBachelor of Fine Arts degree from theJuilliard School's Drama Division (1993–1997,Group 26),[5] where his classmates includedSara Ramirez andAlan Tudyk.[6]
Denman made his film debut withKeanu Reeves andGene Hackman as the deaftight-end in theWarner Bros. football comedyThe Replacements. His other feature credits includeFair Game,Fanboys,The Nines,Shutter,Smart People,Let Go,Out Cold, andBig Fish. His 2013 films includeAfter Earth,Jobs, andBlue Potato. In 2016, Denman starred in the Michael Bay film13 Hours about the2012 Benghazi attack.[7]
In addition toThe Office, Denman's other television roles include Frank Sheehan in theHBOlimited series dramaMare of Easttown. Mike Reilly on the critically acclaimed and short-lived Fox comedyTraffic Light and inRobert Kirkman's short lived horror seriesOutcast. He has recurred as Ed Brooks onParenthood, as Tony onDrop Dead Diva and asSkip the Demon onAngel. He has appeared on such TV shows asER,The X-Files,Mad Men andTrue Detective.
In September 2014, Denman married actress and former modelMercedes Mason. The couple had their first child, Caius, in January 2018 and their second child, Sagan, in May 2021.
Denman is also an avid triathlete.[8][9]
