Danwake (dahn WAH-kay), also known as bean dumpling, is a dish of boiledcowpea flour dumplings from the northern part ofNigeria. It has little flavor of its own, and is usually garnished withsauce,egg, vegetables, or chili pepper.[1]

Dan wake originated inNiger, and has since spread to theHausa-speaking area of northern Nigeria.[1]

Danwake is prepared by mixing groundcowpeas, kuku (baobab powder) andpotash with water to form a thick paste, which is formed into dumplings and boiled. The dumplings are typically garnished with fried vegetables, oil, seasonings, boiled eggs, yaji (which is a blend of different spices includingcayenne pepper), orsuya pepper.[2][3][4][5]
