TheCupra Tavascan is abattery electriccompact crossover SUV (C-segment) to be produced byVolkswagen Anhui, a joint venture betweenVolkswagen (75%) and Chinese companyJAC Group (25%), and sold byCupra, a subsidiary ofSEAT.
Theconcept version was first shown at the2019 Frankfurt Motor Show.[4] In March 2021, it was confirmed that the vehicle would begin production,[5] with the official launch taking place in April 2023.[6]
The Tavascan is marketed as theVolkswagen ID.UNYX in China, with minor cosmetic changes.[7]
The Tavascan is based on theMEB platform designed for electric vehicles of theVolkswagen Group, first used in a production car by theVolkswagen ID.3. The SUV hass two electric motors on the axles, enablingall-wheel drive and providing a cumulative power of 225 kW (302 hp).[8]
The Tavascan's battery has a capacity of 77 kWh (280 MJ), providing a range of 450 km (280 mi).[9]
The Cupra Tavascan Extreme E was unveiled at theIAA Mobility Motor Show inMunich in September 2021.[10] It was developed in collaboration withAbt Sportsline and will debut in the experimentalExtreme E off-road racing series.[10]
Teaser images of the Tavascan were shown in March 2023 in a video made in collaboration with Spanish singer-songwriterRosalía.[11] The production version was officially unveiled on 21 April 2023.[12] It uses the same 82 kWh battery as theVolkswagen ID.5, with the top spec having 335 hp (250 kW) and a range of 550 km (342 mi).[13]
