TheCouncil of Ministers (Arabic:مجلس وزراء سوريا,romanized: Majlis wuzarāʾ Sūriyā) was first constituted in theSyrian Constitution of 1930. Following thefall of the Assad regime on 8 December 2024,Syria is currently undergoing a political transition, withAhmed al-Sharaa leading aSyrian transitional government.
With the2012 Constitution of Ba'athist Syria suspended following thefall of the Assad regime,[1] the new2025 Interim Constitution establishes apresidential system in which executive power is concentrated in the hands of the president,[2] who appoints the ministers without the position of prime minister.[3]
Thefirst post-Assad government was formed following thefall of the Assad regime on 8 December 2024. Outgoing prime ministerMohammad Ghazi al-Jalali continued in that role as a caretaker untilMohammed al-Bashir was designated as prime minister on 10 December 2024.[4]
On 29 March 2025, the caretaker government was replaced by theSyrian transitional government, announced by Syrian PresidentAhmed al-Sharaa at a ceremony at thePresidential Palace inDamascus,[5] in which the new ministers were sworn in and speeches delivered outlining their agendas.[6][7]
