Inartificial immune systems, clonal selection algorithms are a class of algorithms inspired by theclonal selection theory ofacquired immunity that explains how B and Tlymphocytes improve their response toantigens over time calledaffinity maturation. These algorithms focus on theDarwinian attributes of the theory where selection is inspired by the affinity ofantigen-antibody interactions, reproduction is inspired bycell division, and variation is inspired bysomatic hypermutation. Clonal selection algorithms are most commonly applied tooptimization andpattern recognition domains, some of which resemble parallelhill climbing and thegenetic algorithm without the recombination operator.[1]
