Clarence Raymond Scott Jr. (born April 9, 1949) is an American former professionalfootball player who was asafety for 13 seasons with theCleveland Browns in theNational Football League (NFL) from 1971 to 1983. He playedcollege football for theKansas State Wildcats.
Scott was raised inDecatur, Georgia and attended the former African-American schoolTrinity High School in Decatur. As a junior in 1965, Scott helped Trinity to a state title.[2]
Scott playedcollege football atKansas State University, where he was named anAll-American following the 1970 season.
He was the first defensive back selected in the1971 NFL draft at 14th in the first round by the Browns.[3][4] He proved to be a steady presence with the Browns, earningPro Bowl honors in 1973, a season in which he had five interceptions for 71 yards and one touchdown.
