TheChukchi Peninsula (alsoChukotka Peninsula orChukotski Peninsula;Russian:Чуко́тский полуо́стров,Chukotskiy poluostrov, short formRussian:Чуко́тка,Chukotka), at about 66° N 172° W, is the easternmost peninsula ofAsia. Its eastern end is atCape Dezhnev near the village ofUelen. TheChukotka Mountains are located in the central/western part of the peninsula, which is bounded by theChukchi Sea to the north, theBering Sea to the south, and theBering Strait to the east, where at its easternmost point it is only about 60 km (37 mi) fromSeward Peninsula inAlaska; this is the smallest distance between the land masses of Eurasia andNorth America. The peninsula is part ofChukotka Autonomous Okrug ofRussia.[1]

The peninsula is traditionally the home oftribes of theindigenous peoples of Siberia as well as some Russian settlers. It lies along theNorthern Sea Route, orNortheast Passage. Industries on the peninsula aremining (tin, lead, zinc, gold, andcoal),hunting andtrapping, reindeer raising, andfishing.

In the Bering Strait about halfway between the peninsula and the Seward Peninsula are the fairly smallDiomede Islands; the western one isBig Diomede, Russia and the eastern one isLittle Diomede Island, Alaska. The much largerSt. Lawrence Island, Alaska, is about 50 km (31 mi) southeast of the peninsula's southernmost point.

TheEturerveyem River flows intoKolyuchin Bay on the peninsula.
