Chopper core

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Type of stone tool

Inarchaeology achopper core is a suggested type ofstone tool created by using alithic core as achopper following the removal offlakes from that core. They may be a very crude form of earlyhandaxe although they are notbifacially-worked and there is debate as to whether chopper cores were ever used as tools or simply discarded after the desired flakes were removed.

They are found in the early Mode 1 tool industries of theOldowan andClactonianindustries during theLower Palaeolithic.
