Chlebowo[xlɛˈbɔvɔ] is avillage in the administrative district ofGmina Gubin, withinKrosno Odrzańskie County,Lubusz Voivodeship, in western Poland, close to theGerman border.[1]
It lies on the northeastern rim of the historicLower Lusatia region, approximately 15 km (9 mi) north-east ofGubin, 16 km (10 mi) west ofKrosno Odrzańskie, and 45 km (28 mi) west ofZielona Góra.
The name of the village is possibly derived fromSlavicchleb ("bread"). It was first documented asSchwchleb andNemascleb in the 1295Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis document by theBishops of Wrocław. The settlement then was located at the eastern border of the GermanMarch of Lusatia, close to the SilesianDuchy of Głogów.
The area was part of theBohemian crown lands before it passed to theElectorate of Saxony according to the 1635Peace of Prague. Ceded to theKingdom of Prussia, it was incorporated into theProvince of Brandenburg in 1815. UnderNazi German rule, the village's name wasGermanised toLindenhain in 1937; after it fell to theRepublic of Poland according to the 1945Potsdam Agreement (seeTerritorial changes of Poland after World War II), it was renamedNiemaszchleba and again in 1953 Chlebowo.
