Chikage Awashima (淡島 千景,Awashima Chikage, bornKeiko Nakagawa, 24 February 1924 – 16 February 2012) was a Japanese film and stage actress.

Life

A graduate from Takarazuka Music and Dance School and member of theTakarazuka Revue, Chikage Awashima entered theShochiku film studios and made her film debut in 1950.[1][2] She appeared in films of numerous prominent directors likeYasujirō Ozu,Mikio Naruse,Keisuke Kinoshita,Tadashi Imai andHeinosuke Gosho.[2] She received twice theBlue Ribbon Award and twice theMainichi Film Award for her performances.[3]

Awashima retired from the stage in 2009.[4] On 16 February 2012, eight days before her 88th birthday, she died from cancer.[5]
