Chevreuse (French pronunciation:[ʃəvʁøz]ⓘ) is acommune in theFrench department ofYvelines,administrative region ofÎle-de-France, north-central France.
Chevreuse is located south ofParis, in the middle of aregional natural park,Parc naturel régional de la haute vallée de Chevreuse. The riverYvette flows through the area, forming the fertileVallée de Chevreuse.
Chevreuse was founded in the 10th century, and celebrated its first millennium of existence in 1980.[citation needed] Its castle, theChâteau de la Madeleine, dates back to the 11th century.[3]
The writerPatrice Pluyette, winner of the 2008Prix Amerigo Vespucci, was born in Chevreuse in 1977.
