Cetotheriophanes is an extinctrorqual from the latePliocene (Piacenzian) ofNorthern Italy.[1]
Cetotheriophanes was originally described as asubgenus ofCetotherium in 1873, but later elevated to full generic status in 1875. It was later considered a synonym ofBalaenoptera by some authors, but recent work suggests thatCetotheriophanes is distinct fromBalaenoptera.
