Celebrity Silhouette is aSolstice-classcruise ship operated byCelebrity Cruises, a subsidiary ofRoyal Caribbean Group. She was ordered by German shipbuilderMeyer Werft in May 2007 and was delivered in July 2011 as the fourthSolstice-class ship in the fleet.

Design

Celebrity Silhouette is built to the same design as her preceding threeSolstice-class sister ships (Solstice,Equinox, andEclipse),[7] but measures approximately 400 tons larger and six feet longer.[8] The 122,210 GT-vessel is 319 metres (1,047 ft) inlength overall and has abeam of 36.8 metres (121 ft).[1] Upon completion, she had a capacity of 2,885 passengers.[9] The ship recently went under refurbishment in 2020 following her sister ships.

Construction

In May 2007, Celebrity Cruises announced it had ordered its fourthSolstice-class ship with German shipbuilderMeyer Werft for a tentative fall 2011 debut. The ship was estimated to cost aroundUS$250,000 per berth, or roughlyUS$712.5 million.[10] The vessel's name,Celebrity Silhouette, was announced on 21 December 2009.[7] On 29 May 2011, the ship wasfloated out from the Meyer Werft shipyard inPapenburg,[3] and was delivered to Celebrity Cruises on 18 July 2011.[4] She sailed toHamburg for her naming ceremony on 21 July 2011,[4] where Michelle Morgan, president and CEO of Signature Travel Network, christened the vessel.[5]

Service history

On 23 July 2011,Celebrity Silhouette embarked on her maiden voyage toCivitavecchia, where she operatedMediterranean voyages for her maiden summer season.[4][5] She moved in fall 2011 to theCape Liberty Cruise Port inBayonne, New Jersey, where she operated 12-nightCaribbean itineraries to complete her inaugural year.[5]

Celebrity Silhouette has since been homeported atPort Everglades inFort Lauderdale, Florida during the winters, sailing a variety of Caribbean itineraries,[11][12] and has been deployed toSouthampton in the summers for sailings aroundNorthern Europe and the Mediterranean.[13][14]

In November 2023, an onboard youth counselor admitted to theFBI to that he sexually abused multiple children aboard the ship.[15] He was charged in federal court for abusive sexual contact with a minor.[16]
