Carthew Neal is an Academy nominated film, television and interactive producer.

Neal producedTaika Waititi's satireJojo Rabbit forFox Searchlight, which received sixAcademy Award nominations, includingBest Picture. He also produced Waititi's adventure comedy filmHunt for the Wilderpeople. It is based on best selling novelWild Pork & Watercress written byBarry Crump.Hunt for the Wilderpeople premiered at the 2016Sundance Film Festival. It became New Zealand's number #1 at the box office and sold out to all territories worldwide.

He also producedDavid Farrier and Dylan Reeve's feature documentaryTickled, which also premiered at the 2016Sundance Film Festival. It was released by Magnolia andHBO in the US and sold by Magnolia worldwide. Neal executive produced Farrier'sDark Tourist (television series) forNetflix.

He also producedMadeleine Sami andJackie van Beek's movieThe Breaker Upperers which premiered at 2018South by Southwest. It is distributed by Piki Films and Madman in New Zealand and Madman in Australia. It will screen onNetflix for the rest of the world in 2019.

ThroughPiki Films Carthew executive produced Damon Fepulea'i'sRed, White & Brass Aotearoa's #1 local film in 2023,Rachel House (actress)'sThe Mountain (2024_film), Josephine Stewart Te Whiu'sWe Were Dangerous which premiered atSXSW and won the Jury Prize for filmmaking and Curtis Vowell's 2020 filmBaby Done starringRose Matafeo andMatthew Lewis (actor).

He producedTV3 comedySuper City starringMadeleine Sami.Super City had two seasons directed byTaika Waititi andOscar Kightley.[1] It has been piloted in theUnited States withAmerican Broadcasting Company.

He also produced a cartoon,Aroha Bridge, written byCoco Solid.

Carthew was associate producer onWalt Disney Pictures filmPete's Dragon, working underBarrie M. Osborne.

He producedTanu Gago's AR project Atua which premiered atSundance Film Festival and then toured the world's art galleries and interactive documentary FAFSWAGvogue.com withRESN, andJustin Pemberton's interactive documentaryIspydoc.com; a co-production with Canadian digital companyJam3. An early pioneer in interactive web storytelling, he produced and directed pick-a-path comedy5 Minute Call in 2002 andLondon Calling in 2003.[2]

Previously he conceived and produced two seasons of TV3'sWa$ted! environmental make-over series, which was remade around the world, includingin America.

He was named Independent Producer of the Year in 2016 at the New Zealand SPADA conference.[3] He was also named inVariety's 2016 Producers to Watch.[4]
