Carla Capalbo is an American-born Britishfood writer, journalist, and author. She specialises inItalian andGeorgian wine andcuisine.

Early life and education

Capalbo was born in New York to parents Italian and Irish descent. After spending her early childhood in Paris, Capalbo grew up inChiswick, West London upon her mother remarrying.[1]

Capalbo attendedSt Paul's Girls' School. She graduated from theUniversity of Sussex with aBachelor of Arts (BA) in History of Art andSaint Martin's School of Art.[2]

Career

Capalbo writes regularly for magazines and newspapers, includingDecanter,National Geographic,[3]BBC Olive,The Independent,The World of Fine Wine,Bon Appétit,Departures, andFood & Wine. She is a long-time member ofSlow Food, theGuild of Food Writers, and the Circle of Wine Writers and has won Italy'sLuigi Veronelli prize for best foreign food writer.[4] In 2017 she featured in the BBC Radio 4Food Programme's documentary on the food and wine ofGeorgia.[5]

Saveur called her bookTasting Georgia "without question the best book ever written in English about Georgian food and wine."[6]
