Cacique is aVenezuelan brand ofrum first marketed in 1959.[1] The Cacique product lines are owned byLa Martiniquaise.[1] The word "cacique" (a loan fromTaíno orArawak languages) means "chief of the tribe" inSpanish.[citation needed] It comes in several varieties, starting with the simplest Cacique Origen and then moving up to the Cacique 500. The most expensive is the Cacique Antiguo.[citation needed]
