The lastBulgarian royal family (Bulgarian :Българско царско семейство ,romanized : Balgarsko tsarsko semeystvo ) is a line of theKoháry branch of theHouse of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha , which ruledBulgaria from 1887 to 1946. The last tsar,Simeon II , becamePrime Minister of Bulgaria in 2001 and remained in office until 2005. Members of the royal family claim the titles of Prince (Princess) of Bulgaria and Duke (Duchess) in Saxony, with the style ofRoyal Highness .[ 1]
