Robert Griffin "Bobby" Keppel (born June 11, 1982) is an American former professionalbaseballpitcher. He attendedDe Smet Jesuit High School inCreve Coeur, Missouri and while playing in the minor leagues attended theUniversity of Notre Dame .

Keppel was selected by theNew York Mets in the first round of the2000draft (36th overall), with the compensation pick the Mets gained from the loss of free agentJohn Olerud.[1] Keppel spent parts of six seasons in the team's farm system before signing a minor league contract with theKansas City Royals.[1] Keppel made his major league debut on May 25,2006, eventually starting six games for the club.[1] In2007, he played in theColorado Rockies' system. After starting the year 0–4, Keppel was sent to Colorado's Triple-A affiliate, theColorado Springs Sky Sox, upon clearing waivers.[1]

In2008, he played for theFlorida Marlins' Triple-A affiliate, theAlbuquerque Isotopes and became afree agent at the end of the season.[1] In December 2008, he signed a minor league contract with theMinnesota Twins. Keppel was recalled by the Twins on June 22, 2009.[1] On October 6, 2009, Keppel was the winning pitcher in the2009 American League Central tie-breaker game that sent the Twins into the American League Division Series. On January 4, 2010, Keppel was released by Minnesota.[2]

Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters

On January 6, 2010, Keppel agreed to a contract with theHokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in thePacific League ofNippon Professional Baseball.[2][1]

Return to the MLB

Keppel signed a minor league deal with theCincinnati Reds on January 3, 2014. He elected free agency on November 7, 2015 and has not played professionally since.[3]
