Matthew Dean Burdette (born September 17, 1992),[2] known professionally asBlxst (pronounced "blast"), is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer fromLos Angeles,California.[3][1][4] He signed withRed Bull Records to release his debutextended play (EP),No Love Lost (2020). It spawned the single "Chosen" (featuringTyga andTy Dolla Sign), which peaked at number 51 on theBillboard Hot 100 and receivedplatinum certification by theRecording Industry Association of America (RIAA). His 2022 single, "Die Hard" (withKendrick Lamar andAmanda Reifer) peaked at number five on the chart and remains his highest-charting song.[4]

His debut mixtape,Before You Go (2022), was released in April of that year and meekly entered theBillboard 200, while his debut studio album,I'll Always Come Find You (2024), failed to chart.

Burdette grew up inSouth Central Los Angeles. He began rapping and producing shortly after he finished high school.[1][5]

2014–2021:No Love Lost andSixtape series

Blxst launched his music career with a hip hop collective called TIU Muzic, where garnered a local following. In 2014, Blxst produced "Do Yo Gudda (Remix)" byHitta J3 (featuringKendrick Lamar,YG, andProblem).[6] In 2015, he founded his label Evgle, and became a creative director for his graphic design and music videos.[7] Blxst released his first song "Who Would've Thought" in 2016, with a string of independent singles in 2018 including a collaboration withEric Bellinger. In 2019, he released his first solo hit single called "Hurt", with millions of streams.[8] On August 28, 2019, he released a collaboration EP with Bino Rideaux titledSixtape.[9]

In 2020, Blxst and his Evgle label were signed toRed Bull Records by A&R executives Kenny "Tick" Salcido and Charles "CB" Burks III. The label released his debut extended playNo Love Lost on September 4, with the singles "Overrated", "No Love Lost", and "Be Alone".[10] The EP peaked at number three on theBillboard Heatseekers chart. The deluxe edition was released on December 4, with additional features fromTy Dolla Sign,Tyga,Dom Kennedy, and Bino Rideaux.[11] On March 12, 2021, he released a two-track EP titledJust for Clarity, including "Don't Forget" (featuringDrakeo the Ruler) and "Fck Boys" (featuringRuss).[12] That same year, he was listed onXXL'sAnnual Freshman Class. On July 16, Blxst releasedSixtape 2 with Bino Rideaux.[13]

In September 2021, music streaming serviceAudiomack named Blxst "Up Now".[14] “Being an #UpNow Audiomack artist, it's a dope platform, to be even considered, to be a part of, and I'm humble for it, overall”, Blxst told Audiomack.

2021–present:Before You Go

On December 3, 2021, Blxst released the single "About You", with the music video being released on January 26, 2022.[15] He released another single on March 3 titled "Sometimes" (featuringZacari).[16] On April 22, 2022, Blxst released his debut mixtape,Before You Go.[17] On May 13, Blxst appeared onKendrick Lamar's albumMr. Morale & the Big Steppers, on the song "Die Hard" withAmanda Reifer.[18] On June 16 2023, Blxst was featured on "EXIT 9", the 10th track fromKiller Mike’s albumMICHAEL. Blxst's debut albumI'll Always Come Find You was released on July 19th, 2024.

Artistry

Blxst grew up listening toWest Coast hip hop with influences fromRyan Leslie,Pharrell Williams, andKanye West. His musical style has been compared to West Coast rapping and singing hybrids such asTy Dolla Sign andNate Dogg.[19][20]
