Theblack Sumatran langur (Presbytis sumatrana) is aspecies of monkey in the familyCercopithecidae. It was formerly considered asubspecies of theSumatran surili,Presbytis melalophos (asPresbytis melalophos sumatrana) but genetic analysis revealed that these are separate species.[2][3][4] The black Sumatran langur is native to the island ofSumatra inIndonesia. It is listed asendangered by theIUCN due primarily todeforestation, and also due to animals taken for pets.[1]
