Theblack-collared swallow (Pygochelidon melanoleuca) is a species of bird in the familyHirundinidae.It is found inArgentina,Bolivia,Brazil,Colombia,French Guiana,Guyana,Paraguay,Suriname, andVenezuela.Its naturalhabitat isrivers—in particular, "rapids and rocky outcrops stretches of medium and large sized rivers."[2] It forages in the rapids, and nests in rocky outcrops.[2] It is threatened by habitat loss from hydropower dams.[2]
This species was formerly placed in the genusAtticora. It was moved to the resurrected genusPygochelidon based on a phylogenetic study published in 2005.[3][4][5]
