Billy Gene Pemelton

American pole vaulter

William Eugene Pemelton (born September 5, 1941, inMercedes, Texas) is a retired Americantrack and field athlete. He represented the United States in thepole vault at the 1964 Olympics where he finished in eighth place. He qualified by finishing third at theUnited States Olympic Trials. He vaulted collegiately forAbilene Christian University. Prior to that he went toMercedes High School, winning theTexas State Championship in the180 yard low hurdles.[1] After the Olympics, he was theNational Indoor Pole Vault Champion in 1965.[2]
