Bhushan Kumar Dua (born 27 November 1977)[1] is an Indianfilm producer and music producer. He is thechairman andmanaging director of Super Cassettes Industries Limited, also known asT-Series. He is known for his work inBollywood.
On the Hurun India Rich List 2022, he and his family were ranked as the 175th richest Indian with a net worth of ₹10,000 crores (around US$1.2 billion).[2]
Kumar took control of the music companyT-Series in 1998, along with his uncleKrishan Kumar, after the murder of his father,Gulshan Kumar. He went on to become the chairman and managing director of the company.[3][4]
After firming his company's presence in the music market, Kumar ventured into making films. Kumar has made financially successful films such asTum Bin,Bhool Bhulaiyaa,Patiala House,Ready andLucky: No Time for Love.
Kumar donned the producer's cap in 2001 forTum Bin, a film that ran successfully and marked the debut of the lead star cast along with the film's directorAnubhav Sinha.
In 2013, Kumar producedNautanki Saala.[5] The same year, Bushan Kumar released a remake ofAashiqui,Aashiqui 2.[6]Aashiqui 2 proved to be a turning point for Bhushan's production house as it was considered to be one of the Super Hits of 2013.
Kumar's subsequent projects included such films asYaariyan, a youth-based film helmed by his wifeDivya Khosla Kumar. In 2014, Kumar revived B.R. Chopra Films withBhoothnath Returns. He then entered the genre of horror thriller withCreature 3D, starringBipasha Basu andImran Abbas and directed byVikram Bhatt.
T-Series has worked with directors such asMadhur Bhandarkar,[7]Milan Luthria,[8]Anurag Basu andMohit Suri.
On 3 April 2017, Kumar signed a contract withAkshay Kumar for the filmMogul, which is an official biopic based on the life of his father.[9] However, Akshay Kumar quit the film andAamir Khan agreed to do the part, only to quit and return later.[10]
Bhushan Kumar was born in aPunjabi family[11] in Delhi to the founder of T-Series, ownerGulshan Kumar and his wife Sudesh Kumari Dua. Kumar marriedDivya Khosla[12] on 13 February 2005 at theMaa Vaishno Devi shrine inKatra. They have a son born in October 2011.[13]
In June 2018, Bhushan Kumar was accused of sexual harassment by Marina Kuwar.[14][15][16]
In December 2018, Kumar was accused by theIncome Tax Department of evading taxes and of moving hundreds ofcrores to foreign countries to purchase properties usingbenami means.[17]
