Beira Litoral is a historical (or natural region)province (província) of Portugal, formally instituted in an administrative reform of 1936. It was abolished with the 1976Constitution of Portugal.
The province was bordered on the north byDouro Litoral Province, on the east byBeira Alta Province andBeira Baixa Province, on the southeast byRibatejo Province, on the southwest byEstremadura Province and on the West by theAtlantic Ocean.
Beira Litoral was made up of 33 municipalities (concelhos), integrated for the most part intoAveiro District andCoimbra District, half ofLeiria District, and one municipality ofSantarém District. Its capital was the city ofCoimbra. The included municipalities by district were:
Today, nearly all of the former province is located in theCentro Region, only three municipalities are situated in theNorte Region, subregion ofEntre Douro e Vouga (namelyOliveira de Azeméis,São João da Madeira andVale de Cambra).
The municipalities in the Centro Region are divided among the subregionsBaixo Vouga,Baixo Mondego, nearly all ofPinhal Interior Norte (exceptOliveira do Hospital andTábua, which belong toBeira Alta, andPampilhosa da Serra, part ofBeira Baixa), part ofPinhal Litoral (exceptMarinha Grande andPorto de Mós), plus one municipality inMédio Tejo (Ourém).
