Avolasca is acomune (municipality) in theProvince of Alessandria in theItalian regionPiedmont, located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) southeast ofTurin and about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southeast ofAlessandria.

Avolasca borders the following municipalities:Casasco,Castellania Coppi,Costa Vescovato,Garbagna,Montegioco, andMontemarzino.

History

It appears with thetoponymsAudelassum,Audelascum orAudelasci since theLongobard era among the possessions of theAbbey of San Colombano di Bobbio, included in the territory of the monastic court ofCasasco. In theMiddle Ages Avolasca belonged first to the committee and then to theepiscopate of Tortona. Only later it wasenfeoffed to severalGenoese families and followed the events of theGrue valley.
