Atolla bairdii is a species oftrue jellyfish in the familyAtollidae. It is known fromtype specimens found in the northPacific Ocean.
The genus name,Atolla, is derived from the wordatoll.[1] Thespecific epithet was given in honor of Jeff Reynolds, a volunteer at theMonterey Bay Aquarium who guarded a beached whale overnight atDel Monte beach. Even though it's anAtolla, it lacks the long trailing tentacle that mostAtolla have.[2]
