Ashe is a village and formercivil parish, now in the parish ofOverton,[1] in theBasingstoke and Deane district ofHampshire, England. TheRiver Test commonly rises in the village. In 1931 the parish had a population of 174.[2]

The Church of the Holy Trinity & St Andrew is a Grade II listed building.[3] It was rebuilt on the site of an older church byGeorge Gilbert Scott Jr. in 1878. The youngJane Austen, who was born in nearbySteventon, had connections to the village via the Lefroy family.[4]

Toponym

The name comes from "ac" or "ache", a Celtic name for a spring or water source.[5]

Governance

The village is part of the Overton, Laverstoke and Steventonward ofBasingstoke and Deane borough council.[6] The borough council is anon-metropolitan district ofHampshire County Council.

On 1 April 1932 the parish was abolished and merged with Overton andSteventon.[7]
