Artemas of Lystra (Greek:Ἀρτεμᾶς) was an earlyChristiansaint, who is mentioned in theNew Testament. He is mentioned in Paul'sEpistle to Titus (Titus 3:12). He is believed to have served as the Bishop ofLystra, and to have been one of theSeventy Disciples.[1][2] He is a saint in theEastern Orthodox Church andRoman Catholic Church.
Very little is known about Artemas. He was presumably born sometime in the early 1st century, and then commissioned byJesus inLuke 10:1–4 with the rest of the Seventy Disciples to spread theGospel. According toHoly Tradition, he was the Bishop of Lystra for some time and "died in peace", meaning he did not die amartyr's death.[3]
He is venerated as a saint in theEastern Orthodox Church andRoman Catholic Church, with afeast day on 30 October.[3]
