Loshak was born on November 20, 1972, in Moscow into the family of graphic artists Boris Loshak and Olga Uvarova.[1] He graduated fromMSU Faculty of Journalism in 1996.[2]
Loshak started working in television in 1995: in his fourth year of university he became an administrator inLeonid Parfyonov's programNamedni. Non-Political News for the Week on theNTV channel.[3] Later he began to make small stories for this program, then became a scriptwriter and editor-in-chief of the talk showAbout It - the first talk show about sex in Russia.[4] Since 2000, Loshak worked as a scriptwriter and producer of the TV seriesRussian Empire [ru].[5] From 2001 to 2004, he was a correspondent for the programsSegodnya [ru] andStrana i Mir [ru], as well as for the updated programNamedni.[6] From the fall of 2004 to 2009, Loshak was a regular contributor to the television showProfession - Reporter [ru].[7][8]
Loshak left NTV in 2010 and became editorial director ofEsquire magazine (Russia) a year later. In 2012, NTV aired Loshak's five-part investigative seriesRussia. Total Eclipse made in the pseudo-documentary genre.[9][10]
From 2013 to 2015, Andrei Loshak worked forDozhd TV. In December 2014, he directed a 6-part documentaryJourney from St. Petersburg to Moscow: A special way for Dozhd.[11]
From May 2015] to April 2016 he was the editor-in-chief of the information portalHelp Needed. Until November 2017, worked there as one of the columnists.[12][13]
In July 2020, Loshak was interviewed byYury Dud.[16] Among other things, he told how he refused to receive an order from the hands ofVladimir Putin.[17]
In December 2021, Loshak releasedHe is the only one a documentary filmed for the anniversary ofTinkoff Bank.[18]
In February 2022, Loshak's documentary seriesRussian Hackers: The Beginning was released. The film focused on the birth ofhacking in Russia and its impact on the world.[19]
Loshak moved toGeorgia in March 2022 after the outburst ofRussian invasion of Ukraine.[20] Same year in June, he released the documentary filmBroken Ties about the rifts in Russian families that occurred after the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine.[21]
On February 17, 2023, theRussian Ministry of Justice added Loshak to thelist of foreign agents.[22] On October 14, 2023, Loshak released the documentary filmPentagon about the social problems of modern Russian society. The film portrays people living in a former dormitory that belongs to the administration ofNovouzensk.[23][24]
