Algestone (INNTooltip International Nonproprietary Name), also known asalphasone oralfasone, as well asdihydroxyprogesterone, is aprogestin which was never marketed.[1] Another progestin,algestone acetophenide, in contrast, has been marketed as ahormonal contraceptive.[1]
Algestone, also known as 16α,17α-dihydroxyprogesterone or as 16α,17α-dihydroxypregn-4-ene-3,20-dione, is asyntheticpregnanesteroid and aderivative ofprogesterone and17α-hydroxyprogesterone.[1] Closely relatedanalogues of algestone include16α-hydroxyprogesterone,algestone acetonide, andalgestone acetophenide.[2]
