Akira Suzuki (director)

Akira Suzuki (すずき あきら,Suzuki Akira), also releasing works under the pseudonymDoitsu Suzuki (鈴木 ドイツ,Suzuki Doitsu),[1] is aJapanesefilm andanimedirector/editor andmangaauthor. He was born inSapporo, Hokkaidō.[1]

As an anime director, Suzuki has worked onAIKa R-16: Virgin Mission,Ranma ½,Kodocha,Maze,Daltanius,Trider G7, andSailor Suit and Machine Gun. He also directed the anime movieRanma ½: Ni Hao My Concubine.[2]

He is also a prolific editor of such films asEight Hours of Terror,I Am Waiting,Voice Without a Shadow,Sunset, Sunrise,The Glacier Fox,Elephant Story,Virus,The Gate of Youth,The Gate of Youth: Part 2,Nankyoku Monogatari,Haru no Kane,Tokei – Adieu l'hiver,A Taxing Woman,Strawberry Road,Deer Friend andMinbo.

In 1988, Suzuki won the 12thJapan Academy Film Prize for Best Editing, for his work on five films:Umi e, See You,A Taxing Woman's Return,The Silk Road,Kamu onna (also known asLove Bites Back) andIkidomari no Banka: Break Out.

As a manga author, Suzuki works with the labelsHJ Bunko andMF Bunko J.
