Africadalli Sheela (pronunciationⓘtransl. Sheela in Africa) is a 1986 IndianKannada-languagefantasy-adventure film, written, directed and produced byDwarakish. Made on the similar lines as the Hollywood filmSheena, the film was extensively shot in the forest ranges in the African continent. This film was the first Indian film to have been shot in the African forests.[1]
The film featuredCharan Raj and Sahila in the lead roles, along with Dwarakish,Srinivasa Murthy andKalyan Kumar in supporting roles. The music was composed byBappi Lahiri, with lyrics byChi. Udaya Shankar andR. N. Jayagopal. Dwarakish remade the film in Tamil asKizhakku Africavil Sheela, which starredSuresh,Nizhalgal Ravi and Sahila reprising her character, while she went on to reprise her character in its Hindi remake, titledSheela, starringNana Patekar.[2][3]
All the songs are composed and scored byBappi Lahiri.[4] This film marked the entry of singerK. S. Chithra to theKannada cinema. Writing forDeccan Herald in a 2001 article, a reviewer noted that Lahiri's rendition of "Sheela Sheela" was "easily one of his best efforts in Kannada for its sheer slow pace and noiselessnes".[5]
