Aegithalos is agenus ofpasserine birds in thefamilyAegithalidae (bushtits), encompassing majority of thespecies in the family.
The genusAegithalos was introduced in 1804 by the French naturalistJohann Hermann to accommodate a single species, thelong-tailed tit.[2][3] The genus name was a term used byAristotle for some European tits, including thelong-tailed tit.[4]
