Applied Digital Data Systems, Inc. (ADDS), was a supplier of video displaycomputer terminals, founded in 1969 byLeeam Lowin andWilliam J. Catacosinos.[1][2] Lowin simultaneously foundedSolid State Data Sciences (SSDS). SSDS was one of the first developers of the MOS/LSI integrated circuits that were key to ADDS's product line.[1]
It became a subsidiary ofNCR Corporation in 1980, which sold theMentor 2000 professionalcomputer in theUnited States in 1986.
TheMentor 2000 ran at 5 MHz using aZilog processor, 640 KB RAM, and included one 60MBhard disk. It used thePick operating system anddatabase management system. It was able to manage 16 or 32 video terminals at once.
ADDS (along with NCR) was later part ofAT&T,[3]then independent briefly before being acquired bySunRiver Data Systems.
However, their version of the Pick operating system was acquired by Pick Systems Inc, now calledTigerLogic. That version is now called mvBase.[4] MvBase was sold toRocket Software in 2013.
