Year403 (CDIII) was acommon year starting on Thursday of theJulian calendar. At the time, it was known as theYear of the Consulship ofTheodosius andRumoridus (or, less frequently,year 1156Ab urbe condita). The denomination 403 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when theAnno Dominicalendar era became the prevalent method inEurope for naming years.
- June –Battle of Verona: TheVisigoths, under command of KingAlaric I, invadeItaly again, and advance through theBrenner Pass.Stilicho, with an army of 30,000 men, defeats theGoths north ofVerona. Alaric makes atruce, and withdraws eastward toIllyricum.[citation needed]
- EmperorHonorius and Stilicho are honored with atriumphal march, for the victories against the Goths andVandals. This becomes the last victory celebrated inRome.[citation needed]
- Theodosius II, age 2, becomesconsul of theEastern Roman Empire.[1]
