The2017 Bank of America 500 was aMonster Energy NASCAR Cup Seriesrace that was held on October 8, 2017, atCharlotte Motor Speedway inConcord, North Carolina. Contested over 337 laps—extended from 334 laps due to anovertime finish, on the 1.5 mile (2.4 km) intermediate speedway, it was the 30th race of the2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season, fourth race of the Playoffs, and first race of the Round of 12.
The race was held at Charlotte Motor Speedway, a motorsports complex located inConcord, North Carolina,United States. The complex features a 1.5 miles (2.4 km)quad-oval track that hostsNASCAR racing including the prestigiousCoca-Cola 600 onMemorial Day weekend, theSprint All-Star Race, and theBank of America 500. The speedway was built in 1959 byBruton Smith and is considered the home track for NASCAR with many race teams located in theCharlotte area. The track is owned and operated bySpeedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) withMarcus G. Smith (son of Bruton Smith) as track president.
The 2,000 acres (810 ha) complex also features a state-of-the-art quarter mile (0.40 km)drag racing strip, ZMAX Dragway. It is the only all-concrete, four-lane drag strip in the United States and hostsNHRA events. Alongside the drag strip is a state-of-the-art clay oval that hosts dirt racing including theWorld of Outlaws finals among other popular racing events.
Kyle Larson was the fastest in the first practice session with a time of 28.113 seconds and a speed of 192.082 mph (309.126 km/h).[9]
