The2009Meteor Music Awards ceremony took place on 17 March 2009 in theRDS Simmonscourt,Dublin.[1] It was the ninth edition ofIreland's national music awards. The event was recorded and it aired onRTÉ Two on 18 March 2009. The awards show was hosted by television presenterAmanda Byram.[2][3]

The general public were eligible to vote in eight categories - Best Irish Band, Best Irish Male, Best Irish Female, Best Irish Pop Act, Best Irish Album, Best Irish Live Performance, Best National DJ and Best Regional DJ.[4]AC/DC,Coldplay,Elbow,The Killers andKings of Leon were nominated for Best International Band, whilstBoyzone,The Blizzards,The Coronas,The Script andWestlife were the nominees for Best Irish Pop Act.[5]Mick Flannery,Damien Dempsey,Duke Special,David Holmes and Richard Egan ofJape were nominated in the Best Irish Male category, whilstEnya,Lisa Hannigan,Gemma Hayes,Imelda May,Tara Blaise andCamille O'Sullivan were nominated in the Best Irish Female category.[6] The Hope for 2009 nominees were announced on 18 February, with public voting commencing on 23 February.[7]Hot Press editorNiall Stokes received an industry award, whilstFather Shay Cullen'sPREDA Foundation received100,000.[8] The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to traditional folk musicianSharon Shannon.[9]
