The 1960 squad wasBear Bryant's third at Alabama. The Crimson Tide lost toTennessee and tiedTulane in route to an 8–1–1 regular season.[4] They accepted an invitation to play in the Bluebonnet Bowl against Texas following their 3–0 victory overlong-time rivalAuburn November 26.[5] The appearance was the fourteenth overall bowl appearance and the first in the Bluebonnet Bowl for Alabama.[5]
The 1960 Texas squad finished the regular season 7–3.[6] The Longhorns lost toNebraska,Arkansas andRice.[6] They accepted an invitation to play in the Bluebonnet Bowl against Alabama following their 21–14 victory overlong-time rivalTexas A&M November 24.[5] The appearance was the tenth overall bowl appearance and the first in the Bluebonnet Bowl for Texas.
The only points were scored on a pair offield goals. The first came in the third by Tommy Booker for Alabama and the second in the fourth by Dan Petty for Texas.[7]
