The1939 Orange Bowl was a postseason Americancollege footballbowl game, held inMiami,Florida, on January 2, 1939.[1]
The game between theTennessee and theOklahoma Sooners concluded the1938 college football season. It was the fifth edition of theOrange Bowl and took place at theOrange Bowl stadium, then known asRoddey Burdine Stadium.[2][3] Both teams entered the game undefeated and untied; Tennessee was a slight favorite,[4] and shut out the Sooners, 17–0.[1][2]
The head coaches wereTom Stidham of Oklahoma andBob Neyland of Tennessee.
