Picky Minch is a minor character who appears inEarthBound and resides inOnett. He is the son ofLardna andAloysius Minch, and the younger brother ofPokey Minch.

Biography

He can first be spoken to during the meteorite crash at Onett, informingNess that Pokey left the house to look at it. After Ness interacts with Pokey at the crash site, Picky states that his brother is still looking at the meteorite and that he wants to go to sleep. Sometime before Ness wakes up again during that night, Pokey convinces Picky to visit the meteorite with him but flees after being frightened, leaving Picky behind.

After Ness and Pokey find him, Picky temporarily joins their party. Unlike Pokey, Picky can attack in battle, albeit he is unable to deal much damage. Picky's attacks include his bash; dealing around 1 HP of damage, and chanting a magical spell that has no effect. He leaves Ness along with Pokey when they returned home with their parents having arrived a while ago, being punished by their dad (through spanking in the Japanese version or by being yelled at in the English version). He then stays near his bed, saying he doesn't want to look at the meteor anymore. He stays at his bed for the rest of the game, even when he and his mother are left alone at their residence when Aloysius and Pokey leave forFourside. Sometime during Ness' time in Onett, Lardna leaves her house with Picky only present there.

Picky appears again as a memory inMagicant, stating his brother Pokey took his snack.

After defeating Giygas, his mother Lardna returns to the house withMr. Prettyman while his father Aloysius is atJackie's Cafe. He praises Ness, naming him "cool" due to his exhaustive adventures while Picky views himself as "average cool". He also appears at the end of the game parallel to when Pokey knocks on Ness' door to plead for help locating Picky, with Picky instead being the one at the door to request to give Ness a letter from Pokey.

Status

As a temporary party member, Picky has stats that can not be seen in game.

Trivia

• His official clay model has the letter "P" on his shirt, but his in-game sprite features an "M" on his shirt.
  • This is probably because the letter "M" in his in-game sprite stands for "Minch".
• Bateau, a minor character who appears inMother 3 bears similar hair to Picky.
